Tehran is ready to restart nuclear talks with the United States provided that it is treated with "respect" and "honor", Iran's top diplomat has declared.

The Iranian diplomat said only diplomacy produced results, and revealed recent overtures had come from mediators to reopen discussions with the American leadership. He claimed Iran had zero undeclared nuclear sites, and Tehran was not yet able to authorize the UN nuclear inspectorate to access bombed nuclear sites for protective measures.

Navigating a Difficult Route

The foreign minister is walking a challenging route since Iran wishes not to be seen to be acting from a stance of weakness, and he emphatically stated that Iran had come out more resilient defensively and mentally from the joint assault on its nuclear sites in June.

He was addressing at a strategic meeting in Tehran where he reaffirmed that Iran had "an inalienable right to process nuclear material domestically that it will never give up" – the key factor of the stalemate in the earlier negotiations.

Earlier Discussions Abruptly Concluded

The previous five rounds of negotiations between the United States and Iran were concluded unexpectedly and bitter end on 12 June when Israel, with Washington's assistance, attacked Iran's enrichment centers in a fortnight-long engagement that culminated with the American leader declaring the locations had been destroyed. Subsequently, Western states employed their authority to restore global restrictions, but Iran insists they have not had a significant effect.

Iran's diplomats said they felt they had attained a "perfect agreement" to the nuclear fuel concern in prior discussions, when it was decided an domestic cooperative with Washington's engagement could enrich uranium. Each party would have been able to declare success since domestic enrichment would have remained and the US could be assured that Iran's enrichment initiative was solely for peaceful purposes.

It had not been decided in the negotiations that Washington's technical specialists could operate inside Iran, but that was a logical implication of the partnership suggestion. Officials stated repeatedly they had achieved a deal with the US representative Steve Witkoff only for the agreement to disintegrate due to "opponents in the US".

Present Situation

Iranian officials declared the consortium offer was now withdrawn, but it seems highly likely the suggestion could be reintroduced in certain ways if talks restart.

The American leader in recent days stated he had been getting signals that Iran wanted to restart talks, but confidentially Tehran representatives claim they are not yet obtaining coherent offers from Washington either directly or from important Middle Eastern intermediaries, such as Qatar, Egypt, the Omani authorities and the Saudi kingdom. He stated the strikes commenced with a US demand for an unconditional Iranian surrender and concluded with an unconditional call for a truce.
